12 Montessori tips for teaching your child

Latest News

In 1897, the famous Italian educator Maria Montessori began to develop a distinctive philosophy that would reshape the future of education. She realised the vital need to emphasis children’s independence, freedom within limits, and respect for each child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development.

Inspired by the Montessori method, Pingu’s English has become a highly successful global teaching franchise for pre-school children. Developed by educational experts, its unique syllabus, style and techniques teach kids language skills from the earliest possible stage enables them to use English in the real world with confidence.

The Montessori method

Freedom within limits means the kids help decide what their focus of learning will be, working within parameters set by their teachers. Montessori understood that internal satisfaction drives a child’s curiosity and interest, and results in joyful learning that is sustained over a lifetime.

Each child is valued as an individual. Montessori education recognizes that children learn in different ways, and accommodates all learning styles. All kids are free to learn at their own pace, each advancing through the curriculum when they are ready, guided by the teacher and an individualized learning plan.

The Montessori method also helps young children learn faster by focussing on sensory-motor activities, using materials that develop cognitive abilities through direct experience: seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching, and movement.

Pingu’s English integrates all these methods by ensuring each child enjoys multimedia and sensory experiences that enhance their learning in a relaxed and open environment where they can explore their new talents. By combining fun, playful learning techniques with enough structure and routine it helps prepare them easily for full-time education.

12 Montessori Tips used by Pingu’s English to help teach your kids at home:

1. Make your child’s environment happy and safe, where they can feel relaxed but at the same time keen to explore. Children learn from everything around them.

2. Try not to criticise your child too much, or they’ll judge people more when they grow up

3. Praising your child often (but not too often!) helps them learn to appreciate what they receive

4. If you behave fairly with your child, they will learn to be honest

5. If you get angry with your child, they will learn how to quarrel from you

6. Children that grow up in a safe place learn the meaning of trust

7. Try to minimise punishments, so your child doesn’t grow up feeling guilty about everything

8. Accepting your child’s ideas and encouraging them to express their feelings helps build their self- confidence

9. Respect your child even if they make a mistake; they’ll learn sooner how to improve

10. Help your child when they need you, but try not to interfere when they don’t

11. If you always focus on the good side of your child, they’ll be less able to develop a bad side

12. Help your child understand what they didn’t understand on their own

We at the British Chamber of Commerce worked with Linguaphone Group to find them a new in-market partner for the Korean market. Throughout the engagement we had with Linguaphone Group, we found them to be passionate about education, supremely professional in their approach to business and both responsive and personable in their interactions with ourselves and Korean partners. Korean investors were attracted to the best-in-class program which Linguaphone Group offers, the strong reputation of the company and the heritage with which it is associated. I knew about Pingu’s English School through a friend. After research about the school, I decided to enroll my daughter and it was one of the best things I could do to her. She loves studying at Pingu’s English and she cannot wait to the day of the class. I also love Pingu's English School, because there she learns by playing and I can see her progress day by day.

Regarding the teaching method they use a figurative storytelling way of starting the lesson,  trying hard to involve the child and make the them curious about the situation. Tom is very happy to go to Pingu’s English because he perceives the School as a playful moment and not just as a learning moment while at the same time he is learning a new language
